Care tips: How to keep your hair beautiful in summer

Summer at last! Memorial Day today officially marks the start of summer in the US. (Only for D. We in meteorologically disadvantaged Germany will unfortunately have to wait a little longer. ? ) So nothing stands in the way of a relaxing afternoon sunbath, a dip in the cool pool or building sandcastles by the sea. Apparently. But don't forget your hair during all these enjoyable summer activities. Summer sun, chlorine, sea salt and sand can take their toll on your hair structure, leaving you with frizzy hair on the beach or at the pool party instead of the desired beach waves. Let that spoil the fun? No way! We'll show you the right care tips so that your hair can withstand all the stresses and strains of summer.

Be careful with chlorinated and salty water As nice as it is to take a dip in the cool water after extensive sunbathing, to do something good for your summer mane, you should take a shower before and after splashing around. If your hair is already wet, it can absorb less chlorinated and salty water. Otherwise it can dry out, lose its shine and even break off. And it's more hygienic in a bath with other "oil sardines" anyway.

The same applies after swimming. This is because the damaging chlorine and salt remain in the hair and soak up the moisture like a blotting paper. So do your hair a favor and shower immediately afterwards, not in the evening. You should also use a conditioning shampoo or conditioner. Hair care ensures that your summer waves stay smooth.

Don't use a hairdryer Leave it in the cupboard as much as possible. Take advantage of the warm summer air and let your hair air-dry. That sounds wonderful, but unfortunately it has another disadvantage. The hair is tangled by the summer gusts of wind and is then difficult to detangle. Our tip: Use a wide-toothed comb and be very careful when doing so. Your hair is already very stressed from a day in the sun and will break off quickly.

The wind will also make your hair brittle quickly. There is a very simple solution to this hair problem. With a simple braided hairstyle or bun, the wind no longer has a chance of damaging your hair. Our tip: banish the hair from your face throughout the day with these practical hairstyles. Before the evening beach party, remove the bobby pins and hair ties to reveal beautiful summer waves. Set them with a little hairspray and you have the perfect beach party hairstyle. By the way: Never use hair ties with metal clasps and don't tie the ponytail too tightly. This will also damage the hair structure and, in the worst case, lead to split ends.

Colored hair needs a lot of care Colored hair is vulnerable to external influences. You should therefore take special care of it. Nourish your hair with an intensive conditioner and strengthen the hair roots with a rich serum. It is best to apply these before going to bed and wrap your hair in a towel. This allows the active ingredients to do their work overnight. They regulate the oil content of the scalp and protect against harmful environmental influences.

A tip: A visit to the hairdresser to get your hair colored before your vacation is a waste of time. After all, your daily dips in the sun and sea can quickly fade or wash out your refreshed hair color. If your ego allows it, wear a swimming cap when swimming.

Any type of headgear is a good way to protect your hair and sensitive scalp from the sun's dangerous rays. Especially if you have light-colored hair and skin, you are likely to get an unpleasant sunburn quickly. Take the opportunity to go shopping and get yourself a stylish hat, cap or scarf.

Sun protection from the inside You can also make your hair resistant to the summer from the inside with the right diet. Enjoy fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamin C. Fish and cereal products also help to make your hair fit for summer. Very important: don't forget to drink! At least 1.5 to 2 liters of liquid per day are mandatory for adults. In summer and during sporting activities, it should be even more. Avoid coffee, sweet drinks and alcohol and instead pack mineral water, herbal and fruit teas or thin juice spritzers in your beach bag.

If you follow these tips and tricks, you can enjoy a relaxed summer. We wish you a great start to the summer and many happy hours in the sun, on the beach or by the pool - with a well-groomed summer mane, of course.
